Tour Volunteering

As a tour volunteer, you’ll have the opportunity to represent Tri-Faith by leading groups through an Introduction to Tri-Faith Tour, Youth Introduction to Tri-Faith Tour, and/or Commons Congregations Tours–all described on our main tour webpage. To make these tours possible, we have three different volunteer roles to choose from:

1. Tour Guide (Adult Tours)
Responsibilities:

  • Using provided materials, learn the content of the Introduction to Tri-Faith tour and continuously develop personal religious literacy.
  • Present to tour groups at the Tri-Faith Center using a provided slideshow and notes.
  • Share facts and insights about the Tri-Faith Initiative nonprofit, the Tri-Faith Commons and its buildings, and the religions represented on the Commons.
  • Answer visitors’ questions.
  • Walk groups around the Tri-Faith Center building and Abraham’s Bridge.
  • Occasionally briefly walk groups through Tri-Faith’s partner congregation buildings.

2. Tour Guide (Youth Tours)
Responsibilities:

  • Using provided materials, learn the content of the Youth Introduction to Tri-Faith tour (including the youth-friendly activities) and continuously develop personal religious literacy.
  • Briefly present to tour groups at the Tri-Faith Center using a provided slideshow and notes, and engage groups in provided learning activities.
  • Share facts and insights about the Tri-Faith Initiative nonprofit, the Tri-Faith Commons and its buildings, and the religions represented on the Commons.
  • Answer visitors’ questions.
  • Walk tour groups around the Tri-Faith Center building and Abraham’s Bridge.
  • For larger groups, work with a partner to divide the group into two, and lead half of the group in learning activities.

3. Tri-Faith Commons Host
Responsibilities:

  • Accompany tour groups that are visiting Tri-Faith’s partner congregations for 60-minute tours of their buildings.
    • Note: Partner congregations provide their own docents for these tours.
  • Welcome tour groups to the Commons on behalf of Tri-Faith Initiative with a spirit of hospitality and warmth.
  • Watch the time for the tour groups and politely inform docents when the group will need to start moving to the next building (if the docent is not already aware).
  • Guide tour groups as they transition from one building to the next.
  • Answer any questions that come up in between tours.

Note about background checks: These volunteer roles may require a background check. We will reach out to you directly to obtain your consent.

Time commitment: Training for Tour Guides will involve (1) reviewing provided tour materials, (2) observing two tours, and (3) giving one practice tour to a Tri-Faith staff member. We don’t require training to be a Commons Host. When you’re ready, we will work with your schedule and interests to match you with tour opportunities that fit you. Once we have a handful of tour volunteers, we may only need to call on you once every month or two.
