This event is one part of a five-session course called “‘The Other’ Doing God’s Work: Exploring the Interfaith Crossroads of the Ancient Middle East.”
Session 1 – My Shepherd (But You Don’t Know Me): Persian Policies of Interfaith Inclusiveness
Persian kings fostered a stronger empire by inspiring subjects’ loyalty – notably, through a policy of respecting local religions and religious leaders, and even participating in the religious ceremonies and religious roles of their subjects’ religions. At the time, this approach was a new paradigm for empires in the region — but what can we learn from it today?
